How to Find NCBI NM Accession Numbers and Corresponding CDS Sequences by Gene Name

1. Open the website: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/. Select the “Gene” option in section ①, enter the gene name you want to search for in section ② (using the human TMX2 gene as an example), and click Search. As shown in Figure 1:

      2.The search results page will appear as shown in Figure 2. Locate the species of interest and click the option marked as ③ to enter the corresponding page. (Either of the two highlighted options can be selected.)

   3.After entering the redirected page, you will see detailed information about the gene, as shown in Figure 3.

    4.Scroll down to locate the information related to the NM accession number. Hover your mouse over the NM number, and the corresponding gene information will be displayed, including the gene length, genomic location, transcript information, and other related details.

Select the sequence for Transcript Variant 1. After confirming the desired transcript, click the corresponding NM accession number next to the GenBank record, as shown in Figure 4:

     5.Click the corresponding NM accession number to enter the nucleotide sequence information page, as shown in Figure 5:

     6.Scroll down to locate the CDS (Coding Sequence) section. Click on it to display the corresponding mRNA sequence, as shown in Figure 6:
